History
The Isle of Man arose approximately 8,500 years ago (Mesolithic era), when, as a result of melting glaciers, the isthmus that connected the Isle of Man with Great Britain was flooded (at the same time, Great Britain itself, which had previously been connected to Eurasia, became an island). The exact location of the isthmus between the Isle of Man and Great Britain is still unknown".
Why are motorcycles common on the Isle of Man?
The Isle of Man TT or Tourist Trophy-is an annual motorcycle racing event held on the Isle of Man in May and June almost every year since its first race in 1907. The event begins during the UK spring bank holiday at the end of May and will last thirteen days. It is often cited as one of the most dangerous racing events in the world due to the deaths of many participants. The Isle of Man TT is run as a trial run on public roads closed to the public under the Tynwald Act. The event consists of one week of practice and qualifying sessions, followed by one week of racing. It was a tradition, perhaps started by racing participants in the early 1920s, when spectators would tour the Snaefell mountain course on motorbikes during the Isle of Man TT on Mad Sunday, an unofficial sanctioned event held on the Sunday between practice week and race week.
